Postpro QC
The last look before you upload.
Broadcast QC suites assume linear TV and a facilities budget. Most web video gets a loudness meter in Premiere, a glance at the waveform, and hope. Postpro QC is a small Apple Silicon macOS app for that last pass on an export: drop an .mp4, .mov, or .m4v, pick a platform preset, and get a pass, warn, or fail list on your machine.

The gap
Between “looks fine in the NLE” and “survives YouTube, TikTok, Reels, or a client spec” there is almost nothing built for people who actually cut web video. Enterprise tools (Baton, Aurora, and the like) are made for broadcasters. A loudness plugin only returns one number. Postpro QC sits in the middle: local, preset-driven, and aimed at web delivery instead of a playout chain.
How it works
Drop a file or press Return to browse. A preset (Generic Web, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Feed, Instagram Reels, TikTok) loads codecs, aspect, LUFS, true peak, silence, and, on vertical social cuts, platform chrome masks. Generic Web also accepts 9:16, 1:1, and 4:5, not only 16:9. Edit can save your own preset without overwriting the factory ones. Sidebar fields you change are marked modified. Then run QC. Standard checks always run. Optional checks stay off until you enable them, because they take longer. You can stop a run. Afterward, filter Failures, Warnings, and Silence (⌘1 / ⌘2 / ⌘3) and export a shareable JSON report, plus a safe-zone overlay still when the clip is not 16:9 landscape.
What it checks
- Format and delivery: container, video and audio codec, sample rate, pixel format, frame rate, aspect, and resolution against the preset.
- Loudness: integrated LUFS with meter slack. Too loud is stricter than a little quiet. True peak allows AAC encode slack versus a -1 dBTP mix-bus limit.
- Silence: dead-air gaps at or above the preset threshold (1.5 s / -40 dB on Generic Web).
- Missing footage: Media Offline-style slates and color bars.
- Flattened alpha / synthetic black plates. Letterbox and pillarbox bars are ignored.
- Social chrome on vertical and social presets (nav, captions, engagement rail). 16:9 landscape does not draw a platform overlay.
- Optional, slower: captions (embedded tracks plus burned-in type / OCR), compression banding and 8×8 blocking, luma scopes (clips and crushed blacks), face headroom, A/V sync from lips or motion versus speech, not container timestamps.
Also in the app
In-app bug report (⌘B) writes a diagnostics JSON next to the clip and opens mail. There is no backend. Apple Silicon only for now, unsigned, so first launch is Right-click, Open. VoiceOver names and keyboard focus are wired through the drop zone, cards, and filters.
